IPPS Newsletter
The IPPS GB&I Newsletter IPPS REVIEW is produced three times a year and all members receive a copy in the post. It is a key method of communicating IPPS activity throughout the membership. Each newsletter contains reports from area meetings and workshops, in depth articles about propagating and production techniques and notice of upcoming events such as our annual conference.
The newsletter is a key way in which members seek and share plant production knowledge and our editor Spence Gunn is always keen to hear from you, if you would like to contribute an article. Spence can be contacted by emailing him at spengunn@aol.com
Many members and companies find the newsletter an effective way of advertising a product or their business, if you would like to place an advert or sponsor an edition please contact Mike Norris at mike@npnurseries.co.uk
Electronic copies of our newsletter are posted on our website, for wider distribution and to provide non members with a great opportunity to see what they are missing out on, by not being a member of our great Society.
Currently we have copies of spring 09, summer 09, winter 09/10 , spring/summer 2010 and autumn 2010/winter 2011 newsletters posted.
Spring 09 headlines with, "New logo spearheads promotion plan" and includes reports from the study tour of Danish horticulture, an article show casing the work of Nightpark Nursery and Therese Duffey, and a step by step guide to chip budding magnolia.
Summer 09 headlines with, "Ireland Prepares to Welcome the World". This edition was produced to promote our International conference that took place in Kilkenny, Ireland in September 2009, and includes workshop and area meeting reports. Most eye catching are the articles "Plantsmanship-with a keen eye on costs" which describes the philosophy behind the growing success of Philip Moreau and Glenbrook Nurseries and "A reviving brew IPPS Compost Tea forum" an in depth report of a workshop held on the Hereford based business Wyevale Nurseries.
Winter09/10 headlines with, "International honour for Hutch" reporting the presentation of the IPPS International Award of Honour, the Society's highest accolade, to Dave Hutchinson. Included in this edition are area meeting reports and articles relating to last September's International tour and conference. ("Branding the FitzGerald Way", "HDC trial shows value of Evaposensor for mist control" and "International on Tour").
Spring/Summer 2010 headlines with the exciting announcement that the IPPS is to launch a great new initiative, the "Six Pack" which aims to develop talent within our industry. This issue is also packed with technical articles containing the very best bits from Conference 2009, including up to date information on manipulating roots in plant propagation, mechanising the movement of plants at John Woods Nurseries and an insight into the Danish nursery stock industry. There is also an excellent technical article from the current edition's sponsor XL Horticulture Ltd, on the new generation of propagation polythene that they are developing. This year's Conference which will take place in Ipswich from October 5-8 gets a plug and there is a report from an area meeting to long standing conference sponsor's Melcourt and Westonbirt Arboretum. The newsletter also extends a warm welcome to all our new members and even finds room to mention our newly revamped website!
The autumn 2010/winter 2011 newsletter is a bumper edition and includes reports and news from our conference in Ipswich, and area meetings which took place throughout the year and from around the country. This edition headlines with the news that long standing member, nursery owner and renown plant breeder Peter Catt, is this year's recipient of the Rose Bowl. It also contains brief accounts from this year's 6 Packers, and their experiences of attending conference. This edition, is in time honoured tradition, begins with a message from our new president Abi Raiment, and ends with a welcome to all our new members.
